Year round assistance

By Staff | Feb 3, 2010

The Sistersville Ministerial Association holds an annual fund drive each Christmas season in order to provide necessary items for those in need in our community. The Association raises money to help with utility payments, the purchase of prescription medicines, to help stranded travelers, etc. Donations of canned food for their food pantry are also collected.

Be it because of the economy, unemployment or other unknown reasons, the recent fund drive was not as successful as hoped.

It is understandable that in the spirit of the holiday season, people are apt to give more from the heart to organizations raising funds for the underprivileged. But it should also be understood that people are not just impoverished during the holidays. Funds, food and material items are needed year round.

In order to assist this organization with their good works for our community in a more timely manner, the Tyler Star News has set up a donation bin to collect canned food for the local food panty, as well as monies for their fund year round.

Canned and non-perishable food can be brought to the Tyler Star News office at 727 Wells St., Sistersville, and placed in the bin, and monetary donations can either be brought in or mailed to the Tyler Star News at P.O. Box 191, Sistersville, WV 26175.
