The Amber Alert was designed to be a tool for getting information out regarding missing and exploited children.
This week we received texts and emails about a missing child in the area.
Instantly everyone in our small newsroom went into panic mode. We felt sorry for the child and the family.
But our panic and compassion quickly turned to anger when a call was made to confirm the information and we were told it was a hoax.
Who sits down and decides to send out false information knowing it could be passed to several people in a matter of minutes?
If you take part in this type of nonsense, you should know that it may come back to bite you one day.
