Judge sets bond for suspect in Va. slayings

WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia judge has set bond for a Virginia man prosecutors say is a suspect in three unsolved slayings in Alexandria, Va.

Ohio County Circuit Court Judge James Mazzone on Wednesday set bond at $100,000 for 53-year-old Charles Severance.

Severance is not a flight risk, Mazzone said during the hearing in Wheeling, The Washington Post reported (http://wapo.st/1dqSrqF).

Severance is charged in Loudoun County on an unrelated firearms charge and was arrested in Wheeling last week.

Police in Alexandria have said they want to talk to Severance about the killings. Severance has not been charged in the slayings. Investigators said last month that ballistics evidence showed possible connections to three killings — one in February, one late last year and one in 2003.
