CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Schools are closed in many areas of West Virginia and motorists are being warned about potentially dangerous travel conditions as a winter storm barrels through the state.

At least 21 counties from Bluefield to Martinsburg are under a winter storm warning. It runs through early Friday in the Eastern Panhandle and through Thursday evening in other parts of the warning area.

The National Weather Service says up to 15 inches of snow could fall along higher elevations and a foot is possible in the Eastern Panhandle. Up to 10 inches are forecast elsewhere in the warning area.
