Expressway segment to be Wyoming Co.'s 1st 4-lane

January 6, 2014
Associated Press

WELCH, W.Va. (AP) — Wyoming County will have its first four-lane highway when a segment of the Coalfields Expressway is completed.

Coalfields Expressway Authority executive director Richard Browning tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/1dICKxI) that a contract was awarded in October for a nearly 2-mile section of the expressway. The section will start west of Helen in Raleigh County and go into Wyoming County.

Browning says the bid for the project was about $14.4 million, 25 to 30 percent below the estimate.

He says the authority also is working to extend the highway into McDowell County.

When completed, the expressway will run from Raleigh County to Buchanan County, Va.
