WVU Medical Corp. drops public body ruling appeal

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University Medical Corp. has withdrawn an appeal of a court ruling that says University Health Associates is a public body.

The August ruling by Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Philip Gaujot means University Health Associates' records are subject to the state's Freedom of Information Act.

WVU Medical Corp. does business as University Health Associates.

The Dominion Post ( ) says UHA chief medical officer Dr. Judie Charlton attributed the decision to withdraw the appeal to several reasons, including a desire to avoid the high cost of litigation.

Mon General Hospital had demanded access to UHA's records in a lawsuit seeking to stop the relocation of WVU Urgent Care in Morgantown.
