PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) — Mercer County Sheriff D.B. Meadows says vandalism at an Islamic worship center is a difficult case to investigate.

Someone spray painted anti-Islamic statements, along with obscene words and images, on the outside walls of the Islamic Society of the Appalachian Region worship center earlier this month.

Meadows tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph ( ) that police questioned three persons of interest last week. They were ruled out as suspects.

He says he believes the case will be solved. But it will take time.

The sheriff's department is working with the FBI in the investigation.

The Islamic Society's president, Riaz U. Riaz, recently sent letters to area churches thanking them for their support. The churches had denounced the vandalism.
