2 W.Va. science teachers earn national honor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Two West Virginia elementary school science teachers have been named recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence.

President Barack Obama on Friday announced the selection of 102 math and science teachers from all 50 states.

The West Virginia winners are Barbara Black of Hometown Elementary in Putnam County and Gabrielle Rhodes of Union Elementary in Upshur County.

The winners receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation for use at their discretion. They also are invited to the nation's capital for an awards ceremony.
