BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (AP) — Officials in Bridgeport are moving forward with plans to erect a veterans' memorial.
Mayor Mario Blount told the Exponent Telegram (http://bit.ly/18bNRd8 ) a committee is exploring potential sites and grant funding. The city's director of parks and recreation is heading the committee.
Blount said besides exploring several sites in the city, the committee is also looking for grants to build the memorial to honor veterans who served in all wars.
Bridgeport Boy Scouts have said they're interested in building benches around the memorial.
Tom Leonette is a veteran who serves on the committee. He said members are leaning to a city-owned site across from All Saints Catholic Church.
The property is the most visible of all that have been looked at.
