MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — There has been a change of command at West Virginia National Guard's 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg.
The Journal (http://bit.ly/1iiBxPF ) reports that Col. Shaun Perkowski assumed command Friday, succeeding Col. Roger L. Nye. He had been the wing's commander for six years.
As commander, Perkowski will oversee the training and equipping of more than 1,100 military members. They fly across the nation and the globe for national emergencies, foreign aid, wartime actions and other duties.
A key component of the 167th Airlift Wing is the C-5 galaxy, one of the largest aircraft in the world.
At the change of command ceremony, Nye said Perkowski and the 167th have proven they are ready for new challenges.
