PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A new bridge on West Virginia Route 2 is being named in honor of a Navy veteran from Williamstown.

A dedication for the U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Andrew Scott Mollohan Memorial Bridge will be dedicated on Nov. 7.

Mollohan died on Nov. 29, 2009. His father, Thomas Mollohan, tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel ( ) that he committed suicide.

Thomas Mollohan works with Wounded Warriors and the Patriot Guard. He says suicide is one of the leading causes of death among military members today.

In February, a Department of Veterans Affairs report said that in 2010 about 22 veterans committed suicide each day, at rates higher than the general population.

Thomas Mollohan says he hopes his son will be remembered for his service to the Navy.
