HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Cabell County Commission plans to seek a state grant to help pay for repairing the county courthouse's bell tower.
Cabell County Manager Chris Tatum says the bell tower's wooden beams are deteriorating. The tower is supported by a combination of wooden and steel beams.
The Herald-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/16EI3bs ) reports that Tatum's comments came during a County Commission meeting last week. The commission voted to apply for a $100,000 grant from the West Virginia Courthouse Facilities Improvement Authority.
The bell tower was part of the original courthouse, which was constructed from 1897 to 1901.
A 1997 restoration of the courthouse dome didn't include the housing of the bell.
