W.Va. man faces cruelty charges after cats burned

VICTOR, W.Va. (AP) — A Fayette County man has been jailed on charges that he burned several cats and kittens.

The Register-Herald (http://bit.ly/HjVwQ7) reports 56-year-old Michael Wayne Ford of Victor was charged this week with seven counts of cruelty to animals.

State police records show the four cats and eight kittens were in a box that had been placed in a fire pit Monday. Ford's wife, Robin, told an officer her husband had complained about the cats earlier that day.

She said she saw Michael Ford start the fire but didn't know what was burning until it was too late to get the box out. The remains of seven animals were recovered.

Michael Ford remained held in the Southern Regional Jail on $35,000 bond Friday. Jail records didn't indicate whether he has an attorney.
