W.Va. firearms season for wild boar opens Saturday

October 25, 2013
Associated Press

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia hunters will have another option for going after wild boar starting Saturday.

That's when the firearms season for wild boar opens. It runs through Nov. 2 and is restricted to Boone Logan, Raleigh and Wyoming counties.

The dates were announced by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. The number of boar harvested has decreased since the record high of 158 in 1995. Because of declining boar numbers, gun hunters are restricted to an October firearms season.

Wild boar archery season has been underway since Oct. 12 and will run through Dec. 31.
