PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia man who says he was abused by a Parkersburg police officer was shot by the same lawman five years ago.
The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1d2oAJ0 ) that John Sadler Jr. claims he was choked and punched while handcuffed and being processed for a DUI arrest in August.
Arrest reports from the incident identify the officer as Parkersburg police Sgt. Jay Hart.
The newspaper reports Hart shot Sadler during a 2008 standoff with police.
Attorney Paul Morrison, who is representing Sadler in a possible civil suit, says the history between the two may have been a factor in the August incident.
Parkersburg's police chief says the officer has been reassigned to administrative duties.
Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Wharton has asked state police to investigate the incident.
