Berkeley educator is W.Va.'s Teacher of the Year

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Berkeley County teacher has been named West Virginia Teacher of the Year.

State Schools Superintendent Jim Phares announced Erin Sponaugle's selection for the award on Wednesday night during a ceremony in Charleston.

Sponaugle is a fifth-grade teacher at Tomahawk Intermediate Middle School. She will receive an educational technology package valued at nearly $15,000, use of a Toyota car for a year and cash awards from Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Horace Mann Insurance.
