CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Despite a slight uptick in August's unemployment rate, 35 of West Virginia's 55 counties reported a decline in joblessness that month.

WorkForce West Virginia said Friday that unemployment rose in 15 counties, while it remained unchanged in five.

The state's seasonally adjusted jobless rate in August increased one-tenth of a percentage point, to 6.3 percent.

Jobless rates ranged from a low of 4.2 percent in Jefferson and Monongalia counties to double digits in two localities, Mingo and Webster counties. Mingo's rate was 10.8 percent while Webster's was 11.4 percent.

Some other county rates included 5.3 percent in Kanawha, 6.3 in Raleigh, 5.6 in Cabell and 6.7 percent in Marshall.
