This whole idea of "compulsory education" is an oxymoron at best.

Ms. Henthorn just starting on her homeschooling journey. Just give her time. She'll learn that teachers are NOT her friends, that they do NOT care about kids, and that they are just looking out for their paychecks when they talk of their "community" schools and such. (I mean, the Borg have a sense of community, too, but I don't really want to live like them.)

I am commenting upon the editorial concerning BOE President Bonnie Henthorn's decision to home school that was in the January 13 edition.

First of all the editor stated that Mrs. Henthorn had taken her children "out of the school system she was elected to represent". That statement is wrong. Mrs. Henthorn was elected to help manage the Tyler County School system as a non-partisan representative of the people of Tyler County. The system is inanimate and requires no representation. Only direction as the people see fit.

Secondly, in re-reading the Constitution just now, I can safely declare that the government, neither State or Federal has any authority to be involved in the education process in any manner. There is none given or implied. Education is and always has been the duty and responsibility of parents or guardians, not some cookie cutter curriculum designer group that has never done anything except hang out with kids and go to school.
