HONORING THE REMEMBERED — U.S. Army veteran Milton Mack Day was honored as his flag was flown over the Sistersville Post Office for the month of April. |
On April 5 at 1 p.m. deceased U.S. army veteran Mack Milton Day received honors at s flag ceremony conducted by American Legion Post 67. The ceremony was held at the Sistersville Post Office. Day’s sons, Michael and Bryan had the honor of raising the flag.
Corporal Day was in Third Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. He served in Vietnam from Nov. 14, 1967 to July 29, 1969. Among his decorations and awards were: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter and Purple Heart.
Day was born on Jan. 14 1948, son of Robert Elmer Day, Sr. and Maudie Belle Day. He grew up in Jolo, W. Va.
His civilian occupation was as a construction worker and as a Wal-Mart employee. Day was a member of the VFW Post 6327 and Second Vice Commander and trustee at the American Legion Post 67.
The survivors in Day’s family include his wife Joyce Schultheis of Middlebourne whom he married in 1980 in Sistersville.
His children are Bryan, Michael, William, Richard Frederick Day, Katherine Highley and Melissa Munday. Day’s other living relatives include Edith Billings, Robert Day, Sue Dunn, Mason Day, Noami Day and Marie Hull.
Day was buried at Paden Memorial Gardens.
The flag ceremony marked the second anniversary of his death, having died in Middlebourne on April 8, 2006.
