The West Virginia State Grange was honored for the first tim in the history of the organization in the House and Senate chambers Jan. 29 at State Grange Day at the capitol in Charleston. House and Senate Resolutions were also read and presented to state Grange officers.
Valley Grange No. 519, along with other subordinate Granges, made an impression with its Newborns in need and Words for Thirds programs.
While at this event, state Grange officers were presented with a copy of House Resolution 10 and Senate Resolution 12 declaring Jan 29 West Virginia State Grange Day by Speaker of the House Richard Thompson and Delegates Moy, Stemple and Cann.
The resolutions listed the accomplishments of the West Virginia State Grange as being the oldest agricultural and community organization and the world’s first Farm Fraternal Organization since 1873.
Other accomplishments include being a tireless champion for farmers and communities through grass roots advocacy and providing families and individuals with an opportunity to develop potential and build stronger communities in addition to making a difference in the lives of others.
The West Virginia State Grange will be celebrating its 135th anniversary in October during their annual state conference in Jackson’s Mill.
Representing Valley Grange at State Grange Day at the Capitol included Arley and Daisy Shepherd, Mark and Brenda Goodfellow, Rosemary Haught and Kevin Maynus.
