Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibit “Paintings by Hilda” featuring works by artist Hilda Steen of Middlebourne.
Steen’s love affair with art began in high school in Chester, N.J. Her high school art teacher introduced her to oils, acrylics and pastels, which remain her favorite media to this day. After graduation, she participated in correspondence art courses, but soon discovered a need for more in-depth instruction. She spent two years at the School of Fine and Industrial Arts in Newark, N.J. and later studied at East Stroudsburg University in Pa. and at The Orange Shop in Kissimmee, Fla.
Steen has felt especially privileged to study under local artist Jodi Boyd at the Town House Gallery in Sistersville. She has exhibited her art at the Gallery, but has also drawn fans from further afield. She has shown works in Florida, New Jersey and West Virginia, and her paintings have ended up as far away as Oregon and Devon, England.
Along with “Paintings by Hilda” exhibit, visitors to the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex are invited to participate in “Mayflowers at the Mound.”
The complex is located at 801 Jefferson Ave. in Moundsville.
