Eagles drop Knights

MARSH MASHES IT — Matt Marsh hits the ball to the outfield for a base hit in Monday’s sectional game against Magnolia.
It was a rough week for the Tyler Consolidated baseball team as they started sectional play against Magnolia after a week off from games.

Weather played its ugly card in preventing the Silver Knights from taking the diamond as well as the LKC baseball tournament being hosted at Tyler Consolidated.

Once they did get on the field, a powerhouse Magnolia would keep them there for quite some time.

The Silver Knights did limit the Blue Eagles to a single run in the first inning, but the second inning is one that they would soon want to forget.

Magnolia’s bats nailed hit after hit en route to a huge 16-run inning that saw two grand slams. There wasn’t much Tyler Consolidated could do at that point, although a few players did try to spark some life into the game.

In the top of the third inning, Zack Minger reached on base with a hit to right field and Matt Marsh would follow suit with one of his own to left field setting up Zach Perkey.

On the 1-1 pitch, Perkey launched the ball into right field over the scoreboard and bouncing off lightpost for a three-run home run. Even with the monstrous shot, Magnolia was still safely ahead 17-3 and went on to win 21-3.

Marsh finished the game 2-3 while playing well defensively. Michael Cochran also had a hit for the Silver Knights.

While the LKC championships were hosted by Tyler Consolidated, Clay County, Wirt County, St. Marys and Williamstown represented the participants.

Clay County fell to St. Marys in an exciting first game Thursday while Williamstown defeated

Wirt County in the night cap. On Friday, the Yellowjackets beat the Blue Devils to take home the LKC crown.
