LONE RANGER — Roby Tallent stands on first during the first game against Ritchie County. He would round the bases shortly after and score the lone run of the game. |
One day after playing a solid game for their third win in a row, the Silver Knights baseball squad dropped a close contest to St. Marys.
Tyler Consolidated took the lead in the bottom of the second scoring one run, but the Blue Devils came right back to tie it in the top of the fourth. They would increase their lead to 3-1 in the fourth and 4-1 in the fifth before the Silver Knights were able to cut the lead to two with run in the fifth as well.
The Knights plated another run in the seventh and had opportunities to tie the game and take the lead, but could not convert.
Zack Minger led the team with his bat, going 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Matt Marsh had an RBI and Brody Northcraft went 2-4.
Knights’ batters had some trouble with St. Marys’ Logan Venderlic who went the distance and struck out eight.
Logan Efaw started for the Knights, pitching two innings with one punch-out. Kurt Long came on to pitch four innings with two strikeouts before giving way to Minger in the seventh who whiffed one Devil batter.
The Silver Knights then ran into a big road block as a talented Ritchie County team swept a doubleheader on Wednesday in Kidwell.
Roby Tallent scored the lone run for the Silver Knights in the first game as the Rebels took the first game by a score of 24-1.
In game two, the Knights were able to get a run in early, but Ritchie County pulled away in similar fashion for the sweep.
After rain barred a few games including a trip to Calhoun County for an LKC doubleheader, Tyler Consolidated traveled to Elizabeth Monday to take on the Wirt County Tigers.
Unfortunately the result was the same and the Silver Knights dropped another close contest, losing 5-0 behind a stellar pitching performance by Zack Moore and Zack Cheuvront who limited Tyler Consolidated to two hits. Both were singles hit by Matt Marsh and Michael Cochran.
Efaw threw a complete game, but got in trouble early as Wirt County ran four across the plate in the first two innings.
He then was able to settle down allowing only one more run which came in the fifth inning on a solo home run. He struck out five batters and gave up two bases on balls.
Now the Knights have the tough task of trying to rebound against Magnolia in Kidwell tonight.
Tomorrow the tough road continues against John Marshall, a team previously undefeated before losing to Magnolia earlier this week.
They travel to Williamstown on Friday before a doubleheader with Ravenswood on Saturday. The junior varsity will then play two that night against Linsly for a full day of baseball. Monday sees the Silver Knights traveling to Doddridge County.
