A 10-run fifth by Bishop Donahue was the key to a 15-2 victory over Paden City in April 14 softball action. Kim Davis struck out eight for the Lady Wildcats, while Vicki Yurisko singled and doubled to lead the ‘Cat offense. Alli Bertozzi and Amber Palmer each added an RBI single.
Paden City pitcher Kim Davis had a strong outing on the day, leading the Lady Wildcat Softball Team to a 12-2 victory over visiting Hundred. Davis went six innings, allowing two runs on five scattered hits, striking out seven and walking five, for her fourth victory of the season.
Wildcat Head Coach Penny Baker praised Davis and her team for a good performance in the second game of the double-header.
“Kim did a nice job on the mound,” said Baker. “We hit all the way through the lineup and got some big runs with two outs. Our defense played much better than they did against River and committed only one error, and that came late in the game when we were just working on plays. I thought we played a good all-around game.”
Alli Bertozzi, Vicki Yurisko and Davis led Paden City’s offense with two hits each. Yurisko and Davis plated three runs each, while Bertozzi knocked in one.
Macy Woods took the loss for the Hornets. Raven McDiffitt lined three singles, while knocking in a run, and Nancy Cumberledge added an RBI single.
In the first game that same day, the Lady Wildcats only got three hits off Pilot starter Marcy Meredith.
Meredith struck out three Wildcat batters, while teammate Cheyenne Romick came in relief to strike out one. The Pilots scored multi runs in four of the five mercy-rule shortened 15-0 shutout.
Meredith added a single, double and brought home two RBIs, while Erika Williams doubled in three Pilot runs to lead the Lady Pilot offense. Rachal Beisel and Felicity Carretti each pounded out two singles, with Beisel adding two RBIs.
The ‘Cats got to Meredith with three hits, led by a Courtney Conaway double. Davis was the losing pitcher. She struck out seven and walked 11.
On April 18 at Paden City, the Lady Wildcats’ Amber Palmer drove home two runs, including the game-winner, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. The Lady ‘Cats scored five runs in their last at bat to beat the Frontier Lady Cougars.
The Wildcats built a 5-2 lead after three innings of play and weathered a seven run Cougar rally in the top of the fourth to gain their fourth victory of the season.
Paden City hurler Kim Davis struck out 10 batters and walked as many to gain the nod from the hill. Palmer led the Lady Cat offense with a pair of RBI singles that included the winning hit, while Davis helped the cause with a single and a double. Courtney Conaway added a single, while knocking in a trio of teammates. Ashley Efaw plated a run on a pair of singles.
