National Day of Prayer is observed

At the Tyler County Courthouse in Middlebourne approximately 30 people turned out to pray about country, state and local issues on May 1. The first Thursday in May was decreed as the National Day of Prayer in a law signed by Ronald Reagan in 1988.

The Wetzel Chronicle:

DAY OF PRAYER — Above left, a group of around 30 citizens gathered at the center for Tyler County government, the Middlebourne Courthouse, for the National Day of Prayer. Rev. Steve DeLay, pastor of Middlebourne Baptist Church, who has presided over the event for the past 10 years, said this was the largest group to date.

Commission donates cruiser to SPD

The Tyler County Commission voted unanimously to approve the donation of a 2001 Crown Victoria police cruiser to the Sistersville Police Department. The decision came in light of allocated monies for the county’s fleet through various grants. “Because of the funding we have received through Congressman Mollohan’s office, the department’s fleet is better than ever,” said Sheriff Clay Hupp. “We need to share our good fortune with other agencies.”
